Can a solar inverter power an air conditioner?

Sep 13, 2026 Leave a message

In conclusion, a 2 kW solar inverter is sufficient to power a 1.5-ton (HP) inverter air conditioner. Based on calculations, four solar panels operating for 5 hours a day can generate 5 kWh of electricity; therefore, as long as the air conditioner's daily consumption does not exceed 5 kWh, solar power can meet its requirements. For instance, under favorable conditions, if the air conditioner's power draw remains below 400 watts, 5 kWh of electricity can support up to 12 hours of operation. However, if the unit runs at full load, it can only operate for about 5 hours.

Solar power systems offer numerous advantages, including an inexhaustible energy supply, safety and reliability, low operating costs, simple maintenance, and zero environmental pollution. On the other hand, they also have certain drawbacks: they are weather-dependent-leading to inconsistent power generation throughout the day-require a significant amount of space for larger installations, and entail a relatively high initial investment. Overall, provided that the operating conditions are suitable-such as having ample sunlight and a moderate load on the air conditioner-installing an appropriately sized solar power system can effectively supply electricity to a 1.5-ton inverter air conditioner.
