What should I do if a solar inverter stops generating power due to reverse charging from the load?

Proper use of a hybrid solar inverter involves four core stages-preparatory work, wiring and installation, power-on commissioning, and routine operation and maintenance-to ensure stable equipment performance and electrical safety.

1. Preparatory Work
- Verify Equipment Parameters: Ensure that the open-circuit voltage and operating current of the photovoltaic (PV) array fall within the inverter's MPPT input range. Confirm that the total voltage of the battery bank matches the inverter's energy storage input specifications, that the grid voltage level (220V single-phase or 380V three-phase in China) aligns with the inverter's grid-connection settings, and that the total load power does not exceed the inverter's rated output power.
- Prepare Protective Tools: Gather professional tools and safety equipment, such as insulated screwdrivers, crimping pliers, a multimeter, insulated gloves, and a hard hat.
- Inspect the Installation Environment: Select a well-ventilated, dry location away from flammable or explosive materials. Ensure sufficient space for heat dissipation and avoid direct sunlight on the inverter unit.
- Disconnect Main Power: Ensure that all main switches-for the PV array, battery bank, and grid connection-are in the "off" position to prevent accidental energization.

2. Wiring and Installation
• PV Array Wiring: Connect the positive terminal of the PV modules to the inverter's PV+ port and the negative terminal to the PV- port. Use specialized waterproof PV cables and ensure all terminals are securely tightened. Never reverse the positive and negative connections.
• Battery Wiring: Connect the positive terminal of the battery bank to the inverter's BAT+ port and the negative terminal to the BAT- port. Verify that the total battery voltage is compatible and ensure all connections are firm and secure.
• Grid and Load Wiring: For single-phase inverters, connect to the L (live) and N (neutral) ports; for three-phase inverters, connect to the three phases (A, B, C) and the neutral line. Connect electrical loads to the inverter's AC OUT ports, ensuring the correct phase sequence.
• Grounding: Connect the inverter's grounding port to a dedicated grounding electrode to prevent the risk of electrical leakage or electric shock. - Wear insulated protective gear throughout the process. Once all wiring is complete, use a multimeter to test the insulation resistance at each port, ensuring there are no short circuits or electrical leakage.

3. Power-On and Commissioning Procedure
- Close the switches in the following sequence: first the battery master switch, then the PV array DC switch, followed by the grid-side master switch, and finally the input/output switches on the inverter itself.
- Monitor operating parameters: Use the inverter's built-in display or the associated monitoring app to verify that parameters-such as PV input voltage/current, battery state of charge (SOC), grid voltage and frequency, and output power-are within normal ranges.
- Mode-switching test: Disconnect the grid master switch to verify that the inverter automatically switches to off-grid mode, with the PV system and battery supplying power to the loads. Once grid power is restored, confirm that the inverter automatically switches back to grid-tied mode.
- Overload protection test: Connect a load that exceeds the rated power capacity to verify that the inverter triggers its overload protection (power cutoff and alarm).

4. Routine Operation, Maintenance, and Safety Precautions
- Periodic inspections: Check cable connections monthly for looseness, signs of overheating, or aging. Clean dust from the inverter's cooling vents quarterly to ensure efficient heat dissipation.
- Data monitoring: Review system operating data weekly, paying close attention to battery voltage and temperature to prevent overcharging or over-discharging. Keep regular records of PV power generation and electricity consumption.
- Safety measures: Disconnect all master switches during thunderstorms to prevent lightning damage. Do not touch wiring terminals while the equipment is in operation. Before performing maintenance, disconnect the power supply and discharge any residual charge on the DC side.
- Handling anomalies: If the equipment produces unusual noises, odors, or excessive heat, disconnect the main power supply immediately and contact professional service personnel for repairs. Do not attempt to disassemble the equipment yourself.
